🌎Radiculopathy VS Neuropathy ðŸŒ
🟤 Radiculopathy, also called a pinched nerve, is a condition that occurs when a spinal nerve root is compressed or irritated. It can affect any nerve root, but the lower neck and lower back are most commonly affected.Â
A common cause of radiculopathy is narrowing of the space where nerve roots exit the spine, which can be a result of stenosis, bone spurs, disc herniation or other conditions.
Radiculopathy symptoms can often be managed with nonsurgical treatments, but minimally invasive surgery can also help some patients.
The newest treatment for radiculopathy is Epidural Etanercept to improve radiculopathy in patients with lumbar disc degeneration, spinal stenosis, and sciatica.
🟣 Peripheral neuropathy, often shortened to neuropathy, refers to nerve damage that can impact sensation, movement, and organ function.Â
It occurs when nerves in the extremities, like the hands and feet, become damaged. Symptoms vary depending on the affected nerves and severity of the injury. Peripheral neuropathy can result from traumatic injuries, infections, metabolic problems, inherited causes and exposure to toxins.
One of the most common causes of neuropathy is diabetes. People with peripheral neuropathy usually describe the pain as stabbing, burning or tingling.Individuals with neuropathy should be wary of highly processed foods, added sugars, dairy, gluten, and excessive alcohol.
These can exacerbate neuropathy symptoms by inducing inflammation and spiking blood sugar levels.
